The women's 100m hurdles will be enriched by last year's winner and at the same time the Olympic winner, this year's unbeaten world leader Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico. Last year, she narrowly missed the meeting record, so she is returning to Ostrava to get the job done. The meeting record is 12.55, this year she already ran 12.31 and her personal record is 12.26.

The American Tia Jones (PB 12.38) is an excellent addition, and the world champion and world record holder Tobi Amusan (12.12) was already announced earlier. In addition, the 2019 world champion American Nia Ali will arrive with a time of 12:34. And her husband, Canadian Olympic champion Andre De Grasse, who will run the 100m (personal record 9.89) cannot be missed either. Tough opponents await him: South African Akani Simbine with a maximum of 9.84, Canadian world champion in the relay Jerome Blake 10.00 and the sensational current European indoor champion Samuele Ceccarelli 10.13 from Italy. Olympic and world finalist, man of the future Joe Fahnbulleh from Liberia (9.98) dares to do a double during the evening in Ostrava. He will also compete in the 200m (19.83) with the ambition of attacking Bolt's meeting record of 19.83. Otherwise, mentioned Blake and the best current Slovak athlete Ján Volko will also run 100m + 200m.

The men's hurdles are returning after five years, although without the injured Petr Svoboda, foreign participation is great. The new Japanese record holder Shunsuke Izumiya (SB 13.04, second in the world this year) will compete with the leader of the European ranking, which is Just Kwaou-Mathey from France (13.09). The 2018 European champion Pascal Martinot-Lagarde (12.95) and the in-form Frenchman Wilhelm Belocian (13.15) will also be at the start.

The announced Olympic silver medallist in the 400m and world leader Marileida Paulino of Mozambique (48.98 this year) was joined in the 400m by the 2019 world champion  Salwa Eid Naser of Bahrain (this year 49.78) and the silver medallist from the European Championships Natalia Kaczmarek from Poland (49.86).

The men's 800m promises an attack on a fast time by a man who was fifth at the WCh in Eugene 2022, Algerian Slimane Moula improved at the DL in Paris to 1:43.38.

The women's 1500m has four Ethiopians with personal bests less than 4 minutes, who promise to attack the meeting record of 3:59.05. Diribe Welteji has 3:56.91, Hirut Meshesh 3:57.30, Axumawit Embaye 3:58.80 and Ayal Dagnachew 3:59.87.

The main favourite in the men´s 400m is the current world leader Muzala Samukonga from Zambia, 43.91. Hungarian Attila Molnár improved the national record to 44.98 this year and will be a solid competitor.

Czech favourites

Not only Jakub Vadlejch, but also Barbora Špotáková and the in-shape competitor Tomáš Staněk are the best that Czech athletics can offer. From the newer generation, Lada Vondrová in the 400m and Amálie Švábiková in the pole vault. Olympic finalist and the Czech record holder Kristiina Mäki, as well as her partner, Filip Sasínek, medallist of the European championships will not be missing from the women's and men's 1500m.

Czech record holders Jan Veleba and Zdeněk Stromšík will run in the 100m. At 400m, Matěj Krsek, Pavel Maslák and Patrik Šorm. Jan Jirka holds the Czech record in the 200m, and Nikoleta Jíchová is in top shape for the 400m hurdles. Filip Šnejdr, Jakub Davidík and the talented Jakub Dudycha can attack their PBs in a packed 800m.

This year, the visitors will also be delighted by the fan zone where, in addition to athletics, also handball, floorball, American football, para-hockey and baseball will be presented. There will be a mini playground, competitions and testing of running shoes and skills with the Puma brand. The most famous personalities of the history and the present of Ostrava Golden Spike will then be reminded by the outdoor exhibition Story of Golden Spike. There will be an autograph session of legends. Fans can get in the mood for a top-notch experience in the stands, where this year the crowds will also have a small service, starting at 14:00. by playing sports, meeting athletes and also enjoying great food. It is already confirmed that this year's "Golden Spike" will be seen in 140 countries across all continents, and negotiations are still on going with other countries.

Ostrava Golden Spike and athletics in Ostrava

Since 2002, i.e. for 20 years, the Ostrava Golden Spike has been in its "golden" period and is one of the best meetings in the world with the participation of world stars and worldwide television viewing. Her influence was decisive for the development of athletics in Ostrava and the Moravian-Silesian region in terms of infrastructure, coaching support and overall interest in athletics from the youngest to the oldest athletes and fans. The activities are covered by SSK Vítkovice and the Ostrava Regional Athletic Academy.

Chocolate Spike

The popular children's Chocolate Spike will have an Ostrava round today. Its finals are traditionally held on 27 June, in a great atmosphere just before the ceremonial opening of the main program of the Ostrava Golden Spike. It is preceded by the basic rounds in the Czech Republic and Slovakia and the international semi-finals. They take place from April to June.
