Czech 800m record holder Jakub Dudycha and high jumper Jan Štefela will be among the biggest domestic hopes at this year's Ostrava Golden Spike. Jakub Dudycha improved the Czech record this year at the Continental Tour Gold meeting with a time of 1:44.78 min, while silver medalist from the European Indoors Champipnships in Apeldoorn Jan Štefela shone a few days ago in Košice with a performance of 228 centimeters.

Slovenian Tina Sutej headlines the women’s pole vault, which is the first Continental Tour Gold competition of the Golden Spike. With a PB of 4.82m, the Slovenian is looking to build on the successes of her indoor season, where she won silver at both the World and European Indoor Championships.

She faces home athlete Amalie Svabikova, who set the current Czech Record of 4.80m when finishing fifth at last summer’s Olympic Games and beat Sutej at recent DL in Paris. Also in the field are Brazilian Juliana De Menis Campios and Marleen Mulla of Estonia.

There is one typical sign for the Golden Spike Ostrava - the biggest athletics event in Czech Republic always attracts both the biggest world stars and young talents. The 2025 edition will be no different. And the goals will be the same, whether it is an Olympic champion or a young talent. At least, this was confirmed at a Sunday media briefing in the Dolní oblast Vítkovice by Indian javelin thrower, the Tokyo 2021 Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra and the Australian sprint surprise Gout Gout. Both of them visited the unique Bolt Tower, which was personally opened by the best sprinter in history, Jamaican Usain Bolt ten years ago. What did they talk about with the media?

The 64th edition of the Ostrava Golden Spike will shine with the biggest athletics stars. The World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting will feature world-class talent, local elites, and the best fans. Sixteen medalists from the Paris Olympic Games will compete, along with 40 medalists from major championships, including World Championships, European Championships, World Indoor Championships, and World Military Games. This year’s Ostrava Golden Spike, taking place on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, has sold out in recent days due to high demand. No tickets will be available at the venue. The athletes will be cheered on by a full stadium, and organizers ask fans to be in their seats by 6:00 PM, when the exciting two-hour main program will begin. Ostrava, June 6, 2025 – The 64th edition of the Golden Spike Ostrava will welcome another global track and field superstar. Athletics fans can look forward to seeing Olympic champion and three-time world champion in the 110m hurdles, Grant Holloway, who will make his debut appearance in Ostrava. Not only is Holloway one of the fastest hurdlers in history, but he also claimed the Olympic title at the Paris 2024 Games. His personal best of 12.81 seconds ranks him second on the all-time list, reviving memories of Dayron Robles’s world record 12.87 set at the Golden Spike in 2008. Holloway will arrive in Ostrava following his appearance at the Paris Diamond League, which is his next scheduled meet.

Ostrava, March 11, 2025 – The 64th Golden Spike Ostrava, part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold, is set to dazzle in 2025. Spectators will meet the most sought-after athletes from around the world and Czech Republic, including local Vítkovice athletes. A rich accompanying program, autograph sessions, para-athlete competitions, and the 65th Chocolate Spike are also planned.

In the corona season in September 2020, he arrived late at night as the last foreign guest in Ostrava. Jakob Ingebrigtsen won the 1500 meters with a time of 3:33.92 on the second day. Since then, he has collected an impressive number of titles and records. Two Olympic gold medals, two World Championship golds, nine European Championship golds including cross-country and five indoor European Championship golds.

Ostrava Golden Spike did not disappoint again. A great 12,000 spectators (plus another 3,000 guests and journalists) turned up and Swedish pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis once again confirmed that he is the king of his craft. He was the only one to jump 582 cm in the wind and sometimes in the rain, and then 6 meters on the third attempt. When asked what to do next, he answered without hesitation that he was going for the world record. The first two attempts were tests and during the third he already showed why he is so special. Despite the adverse weather conditions, he realistically attacked 625 cm. Finally, he promised to come in a year. We will see what the value of the world record will be at that time.

The major start of the 59th Ostrava Golden Spike meeting Armand “Mondo” Duplantis will perform here for the third time. After his new world record and two competitions in China, he would love to take a shot at 6.25 on Tuesday evening.

Jakub Vadlejch is focusing everything on Paris, but he didn't want to miss Rome. The Golden Spike is a milestone on the way to the peak competitions in the summer. For Vadlejch, it will be his 14th start at the Golden Spike. In contrast, for the Japanese world champion Haruka Kitaguchi, it will be her fourth performance in front of the Ostrava audience. Jan Železný came with a wish for all the javelin throwers.

The 59th Ostrava Golden Spike will have to Olympic champions from Tokyo 2021 on the start on Tuesday 28 May. Italian 100m gold medallist Marcel Jacobs will have his premiere on Ostrava City stadium. For experienced Canadian 200m gold medallist Andre De Grasse it will be his fourth time here. And, as a bonus, he plans to double at 100 and 200m.

The world record holder in pole vault and the biggest star of this year's Golden Spike Ostrava, Armand Duplantis, has arrived in Ostrava. On Sunday, May 26th, he landed at Mošnov Airport in "Usain Bolt style". He is excited for the competition and well-prepared.

Bahamian sprinter Steven Gardiner was the first of the athletic stars to meet with journalists before the start of the Ostrava Golden Spike in 2024. The 400m Olympic champion from Tokyo 2021 revealed at a media briefing on Sunday 25 May in Clarion Hotel in Ostrava why he is so excited about the meeting, which is part of the Golden Continental Tour.

The javelin throw at Ostrava Golden Spike promises a great experience. The organizers did note a message from the Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra. Due to an injury that he sustained in training two weeks ago (adductor muscle) he will not be able to throw in Ostrava, but he will arrive at the event as a guest.

"I was really looking forward to it, it was supposed to be my only start before the EC in Rome. Now nothing will come out of it. I greet the great fans in Ostrava and I believe that I will please them next year," said Tamberi. He believes that he will at least make it to the EC in Rome on home soil. Heigh jump competition with home Jan Štefela, the American McEwen and the legendary Ukrainian Bondarenko will still be worth it.

Mondo Duplantis set a world pole vault lead of 6.12m in front of an expectant crowd at the Golden Spike in Ostrava on Tuesday (27). Jakub Vadlejch pleased the home crowd with the victory in the men´s javelin throw. Six meeting records improved.

This year, the men's javelin is expecting a duel between our biggest athletic star of the moment, Jakub Vadlejch, and two-time world champion Anderson Peters from Grenada. Peters dominated last year, and Vadlejch would certainly like to return the defeat to him in his thirteenth start at Golden Spike. This season, Jan Železný's athlete is in top form. The shot putter Tomáš Staněk will be starting for the eighth time.

The shot put world record holder Ryan Crouser of the USA arrived to Ostrava after the long 23 hours journey. He talked about the new technique and new challenges he expect this season. Is it possible to break the 24m barrier one day? The long distance runner Lamecha Girma of Ethiopia looks forward to run 1500m in Ostrava.
